What is DPHH™?
DPHH™ promotes greater awareness of deaf people from all backgrounds, encourages diversity, provides a venue to network and develop new opportunities, and creates an environment ideal for making new acquaintances and reminiscing with old faces.
Are hearing people allowed to attend DPHH™?
Yes, hearing people are encouraged to attend! Many ASL interpreters and other hearing people attend DPHH™ as it is an opportunity to meet old and new friends. If you are not a signer, you should bring a friend, the DPHH™ environment can sometimes be overwhelming!
Are out of town people welcome to DPHH™?
YES, DPHH™ is a popular event and is attended by people from all over the world.
Who organized DPHH™?
DPHH™ events are organized by the DPHH™ host for your city. Please visit your city's page by clicking on your nearest DPHH(TM) on the national DPHH™ map.
There is no DPHH™ in my city, can I become the DPHH™host?
Sure! Contact us to express your interest in hosting DPHH™ for your city. Our goal is to set up a DPHH™ in every major urban area where there is a significant deaf population.
When are DPHH™ events announced?
DPHH™ hosts will send a notification approximately seven (7) days before the event, usually on the Monday before the first Friday of the month.
How are DPHH™ locations chosen?
The DPHH™ host solicits recommendations from DPHH™ attendees. DPHH™ hosts make sure the location is near public transportation and is large enough for their average number of attendees. DPHH™ hosts also choose a variety of venues including pubs, upscale lounges, sports bars, and nightclubs. DPHH™ hosts understand and respect that it is difficult to satisfy different preferences.
Does DPHH™ charge for admission?
DPHH™ does not charge admission for any of its events. However, some bars may have cover charges. Please read the description of your city's upcoming DPHHs for details about the event, including cover charges, parking, attire, and more.
Are DPHH™ locations and bartenders deaf-friendly?
DPHH™ host informs the management at each venue about our event. We also encourage bartenders to be sensitive to the unique communication needs and that they have paper and pen ready for deaf patrons.
Are DPHH™ locations accessible to people with disabilities?
DPHH™ hosts expect that the majority of locations will be accessible to wheelchair users. To the extent possible, DPHH™ hosts look for well-lit locations to accommodate those with visual disabilities. In some cases, DPHH™ hosts ask management to not dim the lights.
